Introduction
Glasgow (MilnGavie)
to Fort William
95 miles
A journal of our trek between 26th May and 31st May 2006
Building on our unqualified
success on the Coast to Coast walk the previous year, Graham and
I decided that the West Highland Way would be a suitable follow up
for 2006.
Two of our ‘guest walkers’ from the previous year, my step
brother Phil and our friend Martyn, had obviously decided
with hindsight, that doing only the odd days walk was missing too much of the fun,
and so decided to accompany us on the whole route. This however, may
have been one decision too far!
Phil, despite his advancing years is quite a fit specimen, and
thus he fancied his chances of outdoing the always competitive Graham.
Martyn on the other hand, was very similar in attitude to myself and
couldn’t care less how ‘fast’ we went, as long as
we got to the end!
Again, as with last year, this account is not intended to be a chronicle
of the route, but more of a light hearted account of our acquaintances
and those experiences that we had along the way.
We had planned the walk and booked most of the accommodation the previous
September. The walk would be covered over a period of 6 days, and again
we were going to have our luggage transported between our overnight
stays, this time by AMS.
As usual, in light of our previous experiences, bets were being placed
as to how long it would take us to get ‘misplaced’ – a
regular feature of our regular walks during the year, and so more
than likely a certainty with 95 miles route to go at!
